Relinquished

On a warm summer's night in 1965, a baby girl was left alone in a wicker basket, wrapped in a hand-knitted blanket, dressed beautifully, with nothing but a mysterious Victorian brooch beside her. That baby was Elizabeth Richmond. Relinquished is her deeply personal account of growing up in Britain's foster care system, where love and pain were inseparably bound. Raised by foster parents carrying their own unhealed wounds, Elizabeth struggled to understand what family and belonging truly meant. With candor and courage, she shares the story of the little girl who always felt "unadoptable," and the woman she became: resilient, determined, and carving out a life in nursing while carrying the unanswered questions of her beginnings. This memoir is not only about being relinquished but also about survival, forgiveness, and the lifelong search for identity. At its heart, it is a story of how one woman turned loss into strength and silence into truth.
