A Battle of Brutes: A Lesson Learned

Two huge critters from jungles thousands of miles apart meet in the sort of ultimate hand-to-hand combat at which humans can only shake their heads, and possibly their wallets. But unlike many such stories on bookshelves today, A Battle of Brutes goes a great deal farther, and with a lot more fun. Stories about fights between animals of different species have become quite popular in recent years. Most, however, are short, and while occasionally educational, they typically lack the elements which make for great storytelling. Writers Nick Rillema, age 10, and Josh Langston a mere 73, wanted more, so they collaborated on a tale which pushes the limits of the genre. And they do it with style. Instead of a page or two of text and a couple of photos, they lavished their story with twists, turns, and tricks that are sure to keep readers amused and eagerly looking for what comes next.
