How to choose science fiction comics

Science fiction comics run from space opera to near-future dystopia. Choose a subgenre and check whether the story is finished.

Dystopia, first contact, post-apocalypse, cyberpunk

The shelves in this section group the main subgenres: dystopian societies, alien contact, life after a collapse, cyberpunk cities and steampunk alternate histories. Each has different pacing and themes.

If you are not sure, the general science fiction shelf holds stories that mix several of these.

Check how far the story runs

Many science fiction comics are long series collected in numbered volumes, and some are still ongoing. The description shows the volume number and often whether the series is complete.

A finished series or a single volume is the safest way to try a new creator.

Know what the comic is based on

Some science fiction comics adapt novels, films or games, and the description says so. An adaptation may follow its source closely or only borrow its setting.

Original series are often where the form's most distinctive visual storytelling appears.

Before you choose an edition
